Survival on the Margins is the first book in English to focus on the experiences of the Polish Jews who fled into the USSR at the start of the Second World War. They faced difficult decisions and trying conditions there. Many succumbed to hunger or epidemic disease. Yet this group eventually comprised the largest proportion of Polish Jewish survivors of the war. However, their story has not been widely told.

This program is in partnership with the Institute for the History of Polish Jewry, the Jewish Historical Institute, Remember the Women Institute, the Rabin Chair Forum, Classrooms Without Borders and the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Center.
