The Roots of the Uprising. Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto
Grafiki na stronę(21).png

The exhibition is accompanying this year’s March of Remembrance. It tells about the resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto preceding the outbreak of the uprising – contrary to popular belief, the uprising was not spontaneous, it was preceded by months of preparation for armed combat and years of underground work. Initially, underground organizations focused on education, publishing the underground press, and providing support to their sympathizers – with time, when the first news about the extermination of Jews on a mass scale appeared, thoughts began to be put on organizing armed resistance.

We want to show the visitors various circles of Jewish underground activists during the German occupation, their strategies, methods of operation, and the dynamics of cooperation. The story will revolve around the fate of several activists: representatives of various generations and political groups and environments. We want to show their joint effort and cooperation, but also the difficulties they faced.

The exhibition will take the form of a flower carpet overgrown with blooming plants of the Muranów district, which grew spontaneously in gardens and courtyards before the war, and then were the first to return to the rubble and are still found in the area today. The plants were selected on the basis of research by Prof. Roman Kobendza from 1945-1949.
